I found myself in a bit of a financial situation lately and a friend of mine told me that I should think about getting a lawyer to learn about bankruptcy. However, before I even go that route, I would like to understand a bit more about how it all works.
I do know that there are different ways to file for a bankruptcy. Right now, I only lease an apartment so I don’t own a home. I do own my car and it is almost paid off. I don’t really have a whole lot of assets, but I am finding myself having to deal with a great load of debt from recent medical bills.
However, I also have student loans and I would like to find out how a bankruptcy effects them? I have no problem going through the next ten years paying them off, I have already had that in my planning thus far. Do I have to roll them in with a bankruptcy? I would get a lawyer to have them answer all of these questions, but the two lawyers that I called have asked for money up front to meet with them and I just want to get some answers before I go to that point.
